The Tour Experience

Parties up to a maximum of six people will visit the Historical sites of Scotland and travel through the majestic scenery of our beautiful land, with the emphasis being on the relationship between the MacKenzies and their country.

With MacKenzie routes you can take history lessons in castles, monuments, battlefields and museums, visit a whisky distillery, enjoy traditional Scottish hospitality, meet local people and just soak in the wonderful views of a spectacular and beautiful country. Our aim is to make sure you leave the tour feeling that you were not just a client but a valued guest and that you have met and seen the real Scotland.

Each tour of 1,2,3,4 or 7day duration, will create a unique experience, and is designed for parties of between 1 and 6 people in a top of the range Volkswagen Transporter, which provides both zoned air conditioning for guests comfort and Wi-Fi for your convenience. Pick up will be arranged at a location in Edinburgh to suit the party. (Other pick-ups within Central Scotland can be arranged). A tour guide and driver are provided.

As we like to offer as much choice as possible, the tour price includes the above only. On our tours you will be given the choice of various visitor attractions, local restaurants and different options for accommodation. These optional extras including tourist attractions, distilleries, food, drink and accommodation are not included in the tour price. Please consult us for more information on ‘optional extras’. *Please note that many tourist destinations and public facilities in the Highlands are closed or operate reduced opening hours from
October until April. Please contact us for the availability of any attraction.

OUTLAND FILMING LOCATIONS TOURS

Although the literary locations are situated in the Scottish highlands, the filming locations that have been dramatized in the TV series are also located in Scotland and can be reached as part of a one day tour from anywhere in Central Scotland. Visit Jamie and Claire’s homeland on the Outlander Tour and get the chance to see iconic sites from the first TV series from your very own expert.  

The tours visit the Historical sites of Scotland travelling through the majestic scenery of our beautiful land, with the main emphasis being on the relationship between the MacKenzies’ and their country. With MacKenzie routes you can take history lessons in castles, monuments, battlefields and museums, visit a whisky distillery to sample Uisge-beatha (gaelic for “the water of life”), enjoy traditional Scottish hospitality, meet local people and just soak in the wonderful views of a spectacular and breathtaking country.

Please note that costs do not include

  • Meals: because we like to provide our clients with choices we will take you to places where there is a choice to suit all budgets and dietary requirements.
  • Visitor attractions: Because we like to give you choice so we do not include entrance costs. We can advise as to savings available through combined ticket options.

  • Accommodation: We give you the freedom to choose your budget and accommodation of your choice. We also offer to advise and book accommodation for you if required. Please advise us if you have specific accommodation needs at the time of booking. Please note that late bookings may limit the choice of accommodation available.

  • If you choose to book your own accommodation it must be in the vicinity of our overnight stops (contact us for details) or the driver will be unable to drop Customers off and collect them.

Tour Departures
We respectfully request that clients are at the departure point on time as the vehicle must depart on time and cannot wait for latecomers.

Tour Timings
Return times are estimated, and because of the unpredictable nature of travel, we cannot guarantee these times so please bear this in mind if arranging further travel connections and note that the company are not responsible for missed connections.

Insurance
Clan MacKenzie Routes has insurance meeting all statutory requirements we also recommend that clients hold suitable travel, medical and cancellation insurance to cover for any unforeseen eventualities during travel.
