1 Day Jacobite Tour
Palace of Holyroodhouse: the official residence of the British Monarch in Scotland. Bonnie Prince Charlie held court here for 5 weeks in September/October 1745, during the Rising. The Duke of Cumberland also stayed here on his way to Culloden.
Edinburgh Castle: An important residence of Scottish Kings and Queens. In 1689, Edinburgh Castle was the last Castle in Britain to be held for James VII. The Jacobite inside surrendered to Government forces following artillery attack and their own illness. In 1715 and 1745 the Jacobites attempted to capture the Castle without success.
Prestonpans: The Battle of Prestonpans took place at 4am on 21 September 1745 and was the first major conflict of the Jacobite Rising. Also known as the Battle of Gladsmuir. The Jacobite army defeated the Government troops led by Sir John Cope.
